Welcome!

Hi! We’re Rory and Kristi Glasgow. For as long as we have been together, which is over 30 years now, we have enjoyed driving and exploring the highways and back roads of Texas and beyond. Small towns, landmarks, museums, and even kitschy tourist traps draw our interest. We especially love learning local history!

All of that was tragically put on hold on March 14, 2018 when our younger son, Patrick, was killed in a car accident. Grief is insidious, and will affect every aspect of a person’s life. The loss of our little Patrick has altered our lives in many unpredictable ways. Part of our coping strategy is to stay busy and pursue some of the interests that we had originally set aside until “the day that all of the kids were grown.” That includes going out into this beautiful land of ours and exploring.

Our journeys are typically short and mostly involve driving through the countryside, but sometimes we take the opportunity to make long trips and explore in depth. The purpose of this blog is to share our adventures with friends, family, and anyone else who is interested in learning things about off-the-beaten path sites and roads. New posts will be added shortly after making a trip, which we usually do once or twice a month.

We invite you to check out Kristi’s blog, No Rules in Grief. There, she chronicles her observations and experience with grief, specifically as it pertains to our losing Patrick.

Further, I (Rory) occasionally post in my astronomy blog, Eastex Astronomy. There you will find tips and tricks for budget astrophotography, observing, and miscellaneous silliness.
