Old Deer Camp Road

April 25, 2021

Our previous experience in the Sam Houston National Forest had us wanting to see more. So, today, we headed out to Forest Road 209, also known as Old Deer Camp Road. FR 209 begins at FM 1791, which runs between I-45 and FM 149.

There are several forest service roads that branch off of FR 209, but the gates were closed on all except FR 209-A; so, we followed that one. And followed and followed…until it ended at a fence line. The fence is literally the edge of the Sam Houston National Forest.

And there we explored, and sat, and listened, and watched, and generally, just relaxed. Kristi even took a nap in the truck!

I set up a DSLR and recorded a couple of videos, which I then spliced together. Relax and enjoy listening to the birds and look at the trees:

Sam Houston National Forest, FR 209-A
Loblolly pines
Same trees as above. Look at all of that underbrush!
Near the end of FR 209-A
I think the orange marks mean that those trees have been chosen to be cut.
